Mackerel
King Mackerel (aka Kingfish)
Kingfish are available most of the year in our area. When fishing for Kingfish we utilize several methods to catch these fish. Most of the time we slow troll or drift live bait for Kingfish. When Kingfish are striking live baits they often leap out of the water providing the angler with a sensational show.
Kingfish make strong runs and are challenging to catch on light tackle. We also troll for Kingfish using lures and rigged baits at times. Most of the time when fishing for Kingfish we are also catching several other species of fish including Dolphin, Sailfish, Bonito, some Grouper, Snapper, Amberjack, Barracuda, plus many more.
It is not uncommon to catch your limit of Kingfish in a fairly short period of time. These fish range in size from a few pounds to well over 40 pounds.
Spanish Mackerel
Casting for Spanish Mackerel from Fall through Spring provides exciting action for those who enjoy lots of action on light tackle. These fish are very aggressive, fun to catch and good to eat. Many times our anglers decide to fish for Spanish Mackerel for a small portion of their offshore trip just to enjoy this fast and furious action they provide. After marking the schools of fish with our fish finder our normal method of catching Spanish Mackerel is to cast jigs using light spin tackle or to troll for them.
